The Gothy Blog Challenge Day 1: 5 Pieces That Every Goth Wardrobe Should Have (regardless of subgenre-style)

1. Shit-kicker boots (also dubbed "Stompy Boots"). These boots make every outfit look fierce.
Doc Martens & Demonias are popular brands that look terrific with all outfits!

2. Fitted garments - whatever style you're rocking, every outfit's going to look kick ass x11 when it fits your body to a tee!

2010.
3. Personalized jewelry. Whatever items and images you're drawn to, incorporate them into what you wear! I love rainbows, and recently purchased a pair of rainbow gauges.
Sword amulet purchased at Silverleaf Renaissance Faire 2011
where my sword-fighting group performed.
Rainbow pixie dust necklace purchased at Holly ren faire 2010
where I judged an archery tournament.
A different type of leash. ;D
Green checker suspenders & a purple belt - why the hell not?
4. Pops of color. A lot of Goths try to add stamps to their Goth card by only wearing black - and if that's the color spectrum (spectri, since it's only one color? Lulz?) that makes you happy, well, go for it! A lot of Goths love other colors, but forget to buy pieces and accessories in contrasting colors.

I accent my outfits with red, hot pink, and rainbow - not all at once, neccesarily; but I make sure to throw them in to make my outfits more "Kelsey" and less "generic Gawf."

2013.
Pink leather cuff; mechanics over shirt and baby mohawk -
my first day of college outfit for Fall 2012.
The key to pops of color is finding a color that carries through the rest of the outfit.
5. Chokers and cuffs. I love, love, love the look! I own tons of different styles of chokers, collars, and wrist cuffs. The right choker/collar and cuff can take your outfit from "Eh" to "HELL YEAH!"

This O-ring chocker was fashioned for me by a renfaire friend;
come to find out he had made a matching leash.
My boyfriend was less amused than I. . .
so I thanked him for the necklace and declined the leash. ;D
This was probably a Spencer's purchase, years ago.
I've always had a thing for stars.
The black cuff is from Buckle, the silver cuff is from Lia Sophia or the equivalent pyramid scheme.
The black chain cuff was gifted from Kohl's;
the silver chainmail bracelet is from the same fellow who fashioned my O-ring choker.
This has been Day 1 of The Gothy Blog Challenge.

  1. See, this is what I always tell people, no matter the style they are going for. Find things you like, and wear them. When people ask, say just that and smile.

    1. I wholeheartedly agree!
      It's even better if you can incorporate specials pieces and symbols that hold value to you into the outfit - you literally will feel like yourself because it's just so true to who you are! *Ex-fashion design student.*

    2. Exactly. I've always wanted to learn how to sow so I can just make my own clothes. No worrying about finding the right piece, just make the clothes the way I want to. That's why I make my own jewelry.

  2. I completely agree to your list, I haven't thought about those things that much before but you hit it spot on.
