The Gothy Blog Challenge Day 2: 5 movies for Goths

A lot of gothy individuals like horror or thriller movies - but that's not me.

I dislike gore, blood, and unneccessary death, so movies like that don't bite my fancy - not even Genetic Repo.  *Takes a stamp off her Goth card.*

So instead of giving you 5 movies that fit the generic goth stereotypes, I'm going to list 5 movies/animes/tv series that fit my brand of goth.

Oh, and these are not ranked in any particular order; just as they came to mind.

No. 1 is the new Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr & Jude Law.

Why should you watch this?
Downey Jr plays sarcastic, sharp-witted Holmes with a darker side than the character is typically portrayed.

I loved the quickness of the movie, how it didn't patronize it's viewers like some of the older Holmes tv shows did, and the humor is wonderful.

No. 2 is the 1980s Batman featuring Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson.
Why should you watch this?
Because Batman will punch you in the face if you don't.
Just kidding.
This movie was the first in the string of late 1980s-mid 1990s Batman movies, and is the beginning of the second tier of monumental Batman movies, as a lot of fans feel (the first tier being the 1960s movie and then tv series starring Adam West as Batman).

This is the face that will later bring you "The Shining."
"HERE'S NICHOLSON."

Nicholson plays an amazingly dark Joker - a true contrast in comparison to Cesar Romero's playful but non-threatening Joker of the 1960s.

It's as graphic as it gets for it's time period - which is minimal.  The scaredy cat in me will happily watch this movie over and over again . . . which is good, because the huge Batman fanatic in me would be very sad if I couldn't.

No. 3 is Kamikaze Girls.

This little gem is a must watch in the Lolita community - which I use to belong to, and subsequently means I've seen the film.  It was not what I was expecting at all; which has made it a movie I rewatch every now and again.

For a very quick comprehension of Lolita - a fashion subculture inspired by the Rococo period in history.  The modern silhouette is to create a doll-like appearance.

Anywoozle, Kamikaze Girls depicts the life of Momoko - a selfish teenage girl who's fixated on Lolita, being pretty and having a pretty life, when she meets Ichiko - a member of a girl gang who likes to fight, and befriends Momoko after purchasing Momoko's grandmother's scooter/motorcycle wannabe.

The movie goes on to show how time can make people stronger, and how friends and companions are neccessary in life.

It doesn't sugarcoat reality, and I can promise that I did in fact copy Ichiko's girl gang style after seeing the movie.

Ichiko looks so badass!
Hard to find on VHS or DVD, there's typically a copy on Youtube.

No. 4 is The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series.

Femdom (in the nonsexual context), enthusiastic main characters, a captivating plot, and a great lead character make this a series worth watching.

I love how outspoken, assertive, and go-getter Haruhi is.

No. 5 is the tv series Futurama.

Are you seeing a theme here?
Humor, cartoons, or based off cartoons - that's my weakness when it comes to watchable material.

For the five of you who have not seen Futurama, the plot follows a delivery boy who has been cryogenically frozen into the year 3000 AD/CE and how he transitions into life as a delivery boy in an entirely different millenia.

Viola!  Which of these series have you already seen or watch?  Which ones would you consider?

What movies would go in your top 5? :D
